Dave Kerpen, founder and CEO of Likeable Local announced the company has closed a seed round of fundraising with $660,000. Likeable Local aims to make social media easy and effective for small businesses through automated content, targeted social advertising, and Facebook applications. Launched in beta last year as Likeable Dentists, in conjunction with Fortune 500 partner Henry Schein, Likeable will use the funds raised to build out development and sales teams, expand to additional verticals, and launch a mobile application.

At the outset of the antitrust lawsuit brought by the Department of Justice, things didn't look good for Apple. Even the judge hearing the case in lieu of a jury urged the company to settle, like its co-defendents had all done. But Apple refused, and in the second week of the trial, things are looking up for the company.

There is plenty of news coming out of Apple's WWDC today, but perhaps at the top of the list is the announcement that yes -- just as the rumor mill had predicted -- a streaming version of iTunes will be coming to a device near you. Apple says the service will be available to users in the United States for free in the fall. Repurposing much of its "Genius" technology, the streaming music service will suggest music to users based on their tastes. As of now, Warner, Sony, and Universal have all signed on to provide streaming rights to iTunes.

When Apple's decision to use its own maps instead of Google's turned out to be a bit of a disaster, rumors abounded that it might solve its problem by buying Waze, a company that provides a social navigation app. And it was, in fact, the solution for many disgruntled iPhone users after the map debacle. Facebook was also rumored to have interest in the company. Now, Google is the one rumored to be buying Waze.

On Monday the DOJ's trial against Apple -- which is charged with colluding to raise ebook prices in an antitrust case -- got underway in New York. Though Apple was originally charged along with publishers, those companies have long since settled the case and are now testifying against Apple.

On Wednesday, June 5, Washington Post announced in a blog post that it will begin phasing in its metered subscription model on June 12. Non-subscribers will be able to see 20 pieces of content per month. The blog also detailed other aspects of the new paywall.

The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) announced the publication of a new recommended practice, Improving OpenURLs Through Analytics (IOTA): Recommendations for Link Resolver Providers. These recommendations are the result of a three-year study performed by the NISO IOTA Working Group in which millions of OpenURLs were analyzed and a Completeness Index was developed as a means of quantifying OpenURL quality.

In April of 2012 a suit was filed in New York by the Department of Justice against Apple and five publishers -- Penguin Group, Harper Collins, Simon & Schuster, Hachette and Macmillan - alleging that the companies colluded to keep ebook prices high. Over the past year the publishers have settled, but Apple refused and is now getting its day in court. The trial started on Monday.

Media forecast and research firm Simba Information has released the 2013 edition of "Trends in Digital and Trade Book Retailing." This new report found that a quarter of adults who have used a Kindle to read an ebook in the last three months have also bought at least one book at an independent, local, or used bookstore. More than one in five have used a chain bookstore.

All Things D, among a bevy of other publications, reported late last week that anonymous sources said Mayer had met with Tumblr CEO David Karp and was interested in bringing the popular blogging service into the Yahoo! fold. Then, Monday morning the companies announced the deal was final via a press release.
