Lately, the media has been so focused on the Apple ebook trial that you could be forgiven for having forgotten all about the Author Guild's lawsuit against Google for its attempts to scan every book. But a three judge panel decided this week to revoke class action status, at least temporarily.

It probably won't matter much to the hordes of Potter fans who frequent Pottermore, but CEO Charlie Redmayne is leaving to return to HarperCollins U.K. as CEO. Redmayne had served as the head of Pottermore since its beginning in 2011.

Andrew Sullivan's decision to leave The Daily Beast and take his blog, The Dish, with him at the beginning of the year was bold. Sullivan decided to support The Dish with a subscription model, and now six months in he's updating us all on the site's progress.

If you were one of the few people who loves the Nook Tablet, Barnes & Noble has some bad news for you-sort of. Barnes & Noble isn't discontinuing the tablet, exactly, rather it is forming an outside partnership - the partner has not yet been announced - to manufacture the tablets. It will continue to produce its e-ink Nook readers on its own. The tablet will be co-branded with the mystery partner.

Springer is offering two more language-specific ebook collections, in French and Italian. The French collection is comprised of about 330 titles, and the Italian collection offers over 400 titles. These collections aim to address the needs of the French- and Italian-language research communities who now have the option of accessing relevant scientific content from medicine, mathematics, computer science, and other fields. The Italian package is available in three subject collections, while the French package can be purchased in two subject collections.

According to a report from Analysys Mason, by making rights available for online distribution, content providers are not only able to shrink the demand for pirated content, but also to expand their markets and overcome corresponding decreases in the sale of physical content. The report, commissioned by the Internet Society, found that while online distribution does present some threats to the businesses of content owners, it allows for even greater opportunities.

One of the biggest challenges for both the defense and prosecution in the Apple anti-trust case is that the man at the company's long-time CEo, the late Steve Jobs, is around to testify. In his stead, Eddy Cue -- often referred to as the "ringmaster" of the alleged conspiracy to raise ebook prices -- has become the epicenter of the case against Apple. Cue was scheduled to kick off the third week of the trial by completing his testimony, which began the previous Thursday.

At the outset of the antitrust lawsuit brought by the Department of Justice, things didn't look good for Apple. Even the judge hearing the case in lieu of a jury urged the company to settle, like its co-defendents had all done. But Apple refused, and in the second week of the trial, things are looking up for the company.

There is plenty of news coming out of Apple's WWDC today, but perhaps at the top of the list is the announcement that yes -- just as the rumor mill had predicted -- a streaming version of iTunes will be coming to a device near you. Apple says the service will be available to users in the United States for free in the fall. Repurposing much of its "Genius" technology, the streaming music service will suggest music to users based on their tastes. As of now, Warner, Sony, and Universal have all signed on to provide streaming rights to iTunes.

When Apple's decision to use its own maps instead of Google's turned out to be a bit of a disaster, rumors abounded that it might solve its problem by buying Waze, a company that provides a social navigation app. And it was, in fact, the solution for many disgruntled iPhone users after the map debacle. Facebook was also rumored to have interest in the company. Now, Google is the one rumored to be buying Waze.

On Monday the DOJ's trial against Apple -- which is charged with colluding to raise ebook prices in an antitrust case -- got underway in New York. Though Apple was originally charged along with publishers, those companies have long since settled the case and are now testifying against Apple.
