If you've got a Kindle Fire, you can now download a New York Times app, and, according to paidContent content will be free until July 31. After that you'll hit the Times' paywall and will need to pony up for a digitall subscription. That means paying $20 a month for tabley access, or $35 a month for access across platforms, including tablets, smartsphones, and the web.

Bad news for Apple -- as well as publishers and authors. A verdict has finally come down after last month's antitrust trial, in which Apple defended itself against accusations that it conspired with publishers to raise ebook prices. U.S. District Judge Denise Cote ruled on July 10, 2013 that Apple was in fact guilty of conspiring with publishers, which opens the company up to a damages trial.

One of the pioneers of TV on the web is gone. AllThingsD reported that Microsoft quietly shut down its MSN TV. Originally WebTV, MIcrosoft bought it for $425 million in 1997. MSN TV included a set-top box and a keyboard, and eventually lent some of its technology to the Xbox.

If you were one of the few people who loves the Nook Tablet, Barnes & Noble has some bad news for you-sort of. Barnes & Noble isn't discontinuing the tablet, exactly, rather it is forming an outside partnership - the partner has not yet been announced - to manufacture the tablets. It will continue to produce its e-ink Nook readers on its own. The tablet will be co-branded with the mystery partner.

According to a report from Analysys Mason, by making rights available for online distribution, content providers are not only able to shrink the demand for pirated content, but also to expand their markets and overcome corresponding decreases in the sale of physical content. One of the biggest challenges for both the defense and prosecution in the Apple anti-trust case is that the man at the company's long-time CEo, the late Steve Jobs, is around to testify. In his stead, Eddy Cue -- often referred to as the "ringmaster" of the alleged conspiracy to raise ebook prices -- has become the epicenter of the case against Apple. Cue was scheduled to kick off the third week of the trial by completing his testimony, which began the previous Thursday.
