All EC100 Winners

Each year, EContent magazine compiles a list of the 100 companies that matter most in the digital content industry. Below you will find a list of companies that have been included on the list to date. Some are on the list year after year and some did not even survive in business from one year to the next. However, it provides an interesting perspective on the dynamic nature of our industry to look at activity like this as well as the types of companies that are included each year.

Every year, readers and companies inquire about the process of compiling the list: Companies do not nominate themselves nor is there really a way to lobby for inclusion. Unlike many industry awards, companies don't pay to be judged. Each year, EContent's staff and contributing editors (often with the help of fellow ITI staff and editors) review the previous year's winners as the starting point for compiling the new list. We review the companies' activities over the past year and evaluate their current standing and impact on the digital content industry. We then decide which will be removed, to make way for a new crop of entrants--which might be new to the digital content scene, reflective of an emerging trend in the industry, or older companies that have demonstrated renewed vigor in the field. The judges then spend another month voting, commenting, and debating on new nominees (and reviewing incumbents) in order to formulate our final list. Unfortunately, sometimes fabulous companies are overlooked from the list (perhaps through a lack of effective PR and marketing, because they've had a quiet year, or simply due to our oversight). Also, due to its inherent limitation as 100, we can't include every company doing fine work in the industry. However, while not a formulaic process, we have found it to be one that is effective in representing our industry through the companies that make it work. We hope you agree.
